Cause

Seems like I want things my way. Many days, I want the world to be all about me. Truth of the matter is it’s not about me and my cause. As a community people who follow Christ and serve in his cause, it would seem that we need to find out what the cause of Christ is.

For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost. - Luke 19:10 (Msg)

The passion and purpose – the cause – of Jesus, was to find those people who did not know him. While Christ is passionate about those who follow him, he has an extreme desire for those who don’t yet follow him. If that is the cause of Christ, shouldn’t we orient our lives around that? OK, but how can we really do that? In the past, people passed out tracks, held tent meeting revivals, or even shouted from the street corners. This obviously had some effect, but the days are a bit different now. Jesus offers these simple words:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)

Simple and profound. To serve in his cause means that we love him with everything that we have and love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

If Jesus spent his life in the cause of bringing people to know him, doesn’t it make sense that his followers would do the same?
